For more help on that side of the game you can also find a couple of guides I co-wrote with Alwyn over on Total War Center here and here. In both cases politics are a bit easier than Rome as you don't start as a republic, so don't have that loyalty penalty. You start at war with the Seleucids, but they have problems of their own which usually keep them busy. Their roster is also decent without too much in the way of gimmicks or units needing special strategies, except for chariots, which can be a bit finnicky but also fun.Įgypt are a solid faction with a decent sized unit roster, easy access to food (which makes it easier to build and upgrade buildings,) a central location with different ways you can choose to expand, and their nearest opponents aren't too difficult. Once you have the isles secured, you have a solid base to then expand into Gaul and beyond. Iceni start in a corner of the map and you can essentially play a short campaign with them just conquering the British Isles. The other two factions I tend to suggest for new players are the Iceni and Egypt. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists! They have a really poop unit roster, they are no fun but a challenge on legendary as they dont have counters to certain builds. However, if you have a large empire, fighting major wars on two (or more) fronts with several armies, then a unit which is almost as effective with cheaper unpkeep can be worth using.Click here to set your flair! Welcome to /r/TotalWar!Ī subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. Rome 2 on legendary is not it just slows you down and not take risks but as soon as you have decent stacks you steam roll the map. Recruiting one Scythian Hoplite instead of one Holite makes very little difference, I admit. The upkeep for Scythian Hoplites is slightly less. If you're expanding against (some) eastern factions, ordinary hoplites are overkill against units such as Young Axes and Persian Hoplites. I had that reaction to Steppe Hoplites (I think they're called Scythian Hoplites) too. I never understood why their Steppe Hoplites were from a Tier 4 building while their Greek Hoplite which if I remember is on par if not better armour and defense wise from a tier 1 building. Although their regular infantry are a bit meh. They also have some nomad units (meaning horse archers) and a great starting pos Oh yeah I forgot about them! Yeah their archers are on par with Seleucids. Originally posted by DKADIZ:Cimmeria has also good archers if not the best.
